Fake nails for a night out?10 POINTS?
And the answer above is correct, they do tend to fall off pretty easily.
Just paint them in a bright colour or something. I know that's not exactly the natural look but bright colours look good on short nails.
Fake nails can look over the top, and if you haven't done it before it's best left alone. Acrylics can damage your nails because it doesn't let your nails breathe. How about trying something else?
One way to make them look really beautiful naturally is to just file the bitten edges off, and get a buffing block. Find one with the steps printed on them, so you don't have a hard time using it.
One such would be like this:

It smooths away the ugly dry ridges on your nails, and polishes it such that it has mega-shine which looks gorgeous, smooth, shiny and natural-looking. I buff my nails a lot and they look so beautiful that people ask if I paint varnish over them! (which I don't)

Another thing you might want to try is to give yourself a DIY French Manicure. This means pinks nails with thin white tips, which imitates the look of natural, healthy nails. All you need is some basecoat, white nail polish, transparent or translucent pink varnish, and topcoat. Some shops also sell French Manicure kits (I think Sally Hansen has one!) so you might want to try that too.
