I've recently found out that a family member of mine (one who uses the same bathroom - shower/toilet) has Genital Herpes. She also was diagnosed about four/five days after her first outbreak of the virus, so she wasn't being as careful as she is now about hygiene (not that she was unhygienic before, just more now).
I'm wondering if there is any way I could have possibly been affected by the virus. Should I get tested? I'm just taking precautions, since we don't know much about the virus yet. Yes. You can. Wet kisses, lesions that break open and get on toilet, towels, washrags, toothbrush, shavers. Direct contact to the lesion or the "ooze" is what is contagious. It's kind of hard to get genital herpes with out having some kind of sexual contact with some one that has genital herpes. Herpes doesn't live long out side of the body or on objects for more then a few minutes. So getting herpes from a toilet seat or bathroom is not really possible. There might be a slim possibility if she used a wet or damp towel and passed it directly to some one else, then they rubbed it on their genitals, even then there woudl be a slim chance of passing herpes that way.
Herpes is usually passed through direct skin contact, usually with your mouth or genitals comming into contact with an open sore or passed by having some kind of sexual contact with some one that has genital herpes.
I have both oral and genital herpes and have never knowingly passed herpes onto any family member just by having them use the toilet after me.
Unless you have come into direct contact with an open herpes lesion / blister or have had oral herpes since child hood, then your chances of having herpes would be reduced.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
